Monday, 9/10
Goals/Target:
  • Access prior knowledge of Unit 1 Part 3 vocab words by taking the pretest
  • Learn what dictionary guide words are, where they appear in a dictionary & practice using them.
  • Respond to literal and inferential questions
Procedure:
  • Bellwork: ___
  • U1P3 Pre-test--grade together or collect to grade.
    • Students who earn 100% on pretest can choose alternate W.W. assignment in place of workbook pages. Still due Thursday.
    • Read page 18 together, complete page 19
  • Start “Use Guide Words” together on page 20—complete pages 20-21independently due Wednesday
  • In groups of 2-3, complete Study Guide in preparation for tomorrow’s quiz.
HW:
  • Study for Story Elements Quiz tomorrow.
  • Finish WW pages 19-21 due Wednesday.
  • WW Pgs 22-23 due Thursday.
  • Prepare for U1P3 Posttest on Friday.

Tuesday, 9/11
Goals/Target:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Short Story Elements and Rikki-tikki Background
Procedure:
  • Bellwork: 9/11 discussion?
  • Review notes while I come around to check for completed HW (pg 20-21)
  • Story Elements Quiz
  • Begin reading “Rikki-tikki-tavi” with “While You Read” comprehension questions (handout).
HW:
  • Finish WW pages 19-21 due Wednesday.
  • WW Pgs 22-23 due Thursday.
  • Prepare for U1P3 Posttest on Friday.

Wednesday, 9/12
Goals/Target:
  • Respond to literal and higher-level thinking questions
  • Monitor strategies to support self-comprehension
Procedure:
  • Bellwork: MUG Shot
  • Check HW for completion (pages 22-23)
    • Correct answers together as a class.
  • Continue reading “Rikki-tikki-tavi” and continue completing “While You Read” questions. (page 3 of attachment if you open the link)
HW:
  • Complete WW pages 22-23 by tomorrow.
  • Prepare for U1P3 Posttest on Friday.


Thursday, 9/13
Goals/Target:
  • Process the meanings of vocabulary words by choosing the correct word to complete each sentence.
  • Apply knowledge of vocab words by completing sentences
Procedure:
  • Bellwork:
  • Check completed HW: pages 22-23 in WW. Correct answers together.
  • Finish “Rikki-tikki-tavi” short story and While You Read handout.

Friday, 9/14
Goals/Target:
  • Assess knowledge of the vocabulary words and skills in Part 3
  • Apply knowledge of Short Story Elements to “Rikki-tikki-tavi”
Procedure:
  • Bellwork: MUG Shot paragraph (correct with volunteers on SMARTBoard)
  • WW U1P3 Posttest
  • Complete “After Reading” handout for Rikki-tikki-tavi
HW:
  • Enjoy your weekend.:)
  • Review notes again and prepare for quiz next week over “Rikki-tikki”

Next Week:
Monday, September 17th—Book Fair. Bring cash or check, if interested.
